잘난 체하거나 남을 낮추어 보듯이 행동하는 면이 있다는 뜻을 달리 이르는 말. 조선 시대 고종 13년(1876) 병자년에 큰 가뭄으로 방죽이 말라붙어 건(乾)방죽이라고 하였는데, 그 발음이 ‘건방지다’와 비슷하여서 생긴 말이다.
Another expression for being conceited or looking down on others. In the byeongja year, 1876, the thirteenth year of King Gojong's reign in Joseon, severe drought dried up reservoirs, called geon-bangjuk, “dry reservoirs”; the expression arose because this sounded like geonbangjida, “be conceited.”
